Conner Contemporary Art is pleased to announce Seven More (things we like). Drawing from the expansive scope of contemporary art, curator Karyn Miller presents an intriguing selection of works by The Reverend Ethan Acres, Sarah Beddington, Marc Dennis, Jennifer Dorsey, Joe Ovelman, Adam Pendleton, and P. Elaine Sharpe.
These seven diverse artists work in a wide array of complementary artistic techniques and idioms ranging from Marc Dennis’s naturalistic oil painting of a rabbit to Sarah Beddington’s videos of wind-up toy pets. Joe Ovelman's photographs of himself engaged in illicit acts with strangers form a provocative antithesis to the quirky Christian self-portraits in the photographs of performance artist The Reverend Ethan Acres. Adam Pendleton's text pieces riff on contemporary literature while P. Elaine Sharpe evokes narrative by documenting crime scenes like the Gallows Hill of the Salem Witch Trials and the house where the Speck nurses were killed. Jennifer Dorsey also photographs specific places but suppresses their distinctiveness to reveal the generic nature of found objects in consumer culture.
