CONNERSMITH is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Wilmer Wilson IV’s mixed media sculptures at EXPO CHICAGO. Wilson’s work focuses on social marginalization of the black body as an ephemeral object of labor, desire and revulsion. The artist gathers materials from the margins of urban society, such as discarded lottery tickets and event flyers stapled to poles. Wilson uses these found elements to create alternative forms of representation that challenge socially codified values of ephemeral things and the people identified with them.

Wilmer Wilson IV (American b. 1989) is the recipient of The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship and The American Academy in Rome Fellowship. Wilson’s work recently has been presented at the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC; Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Boston, MA: Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia, PA; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, AR; the American University Museum, Washington, DC; and the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham, AL. Wilson’s solo exhibition “Fire Bill’s Spook Kit” can be seen at In Flanders Fields Museum, Ieper, Belgium, through January 7, 2018.
