September 10 - October 5, 2004
Conner Contemporary Art is pleased to introduce Avish Khebrehzadeh’s first solo exhibition in Washington, DC. This accomplished young artist is a District resident with an impressive record of international achievements including the Young Italian Art Award, Lion D’or, at the 50th Venice Biennale (2003). The Biennale awards panel praised Kebrehzadeh’s art for “the grace of animation work [and its] subtlety of narration”. Her works have been featured in Persian Gardens at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Tehran/Iran (2004); Contemporary Art in the Mediterranean Area at the Museum of the Contemporary Art, Rome, Italy (2004); Kunst Film Biennial at the Ludwig Museum, Cologne, Germany (2003); and The Hidden Half: Iranian Women Directors at the Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.( 2003).
In the current exhibition Khebrehzadeh layers new works of video, animation, and large-scale drawings on paper to create installations at two venues: Conner Contemporary Art gallery and Tony and Heather Podesta’s home at Lake Barcroft where the artist prepared works drawing inspiration from its beautiful lake-side views. In each of these installations viewers will experience the enchanting imagery for which this artist has been widely lauded.
There will be opening night reception at Conner Contemporary Art on Friday, September 10th from 6-8pm. The artist will be in attendance. The work at the Podesta home will be on view by appointment for the duration of the exhibition.
