Federico Solmi: American Circus

May / June 2015

 

CONNERSMITH. is pleased to announce a new online initiative. Over the next several months, the Gallery’s website will feature a series of time-based media, performance videos, and group exhibitions.

 

The series launches now with “American Circus,” recent new-media work by Federico Solmi, who blends pop culture imagery with video gaming technology to create vivid critiques of contemporary power structures.

 

Solmi characterizes the 2016 U.S. presidential race in three portraits of political leaders: the most recent president, his female successor, and a business magnate who finances political campaigns. Each work is unique and combines video painting with acrylic paint on Plexiglas and gold and silver leaf.

 

Future online installments include new work by Janet Biggs and Ali Miller as well as Academy 2015, our annual BFA / MFA survey exhibition.
